Iona Village, Acrylic on a razor clam shell
Rachel McKean is a Scottish painter and Fine Art graduate of the University of Edinburgh. As a seasonal worker on the Isle of Iona since 2018, she explores and paints this West Coast island daily, growing familiar with the landscape, community, and island life.
Rachel's miniature paintings on Iona beach shells are small snapshots of the island. It is often the shell which dictates the composition of the image, and the 3D surface allows her to play with perspective. Rachel's fondness for detail is also evident in her larger works where she takes time to observe the minutiae of the landscapes which she loves. Working predominantly with acrylic paint, Rachel continues to build a body of work of the beautiful Isle of Iona. Rachel's tiny shell artworks are often available through the Iona Craft Shop www.ionacraftshop.com Please visit Rachel's Instagram page for regular updates @rachelmckeanart |
